ARISE MY SOUL ARISE
“Arise
my soul arise” is one of those songs that came together very quickly. I
was just playing my guitar and flicking through a song book when the title
of this Charles Wesley hymn grabbed me. The reason the title grabbed me
is that I love the word arise. It is such a positive and hope inspiring
word. I love to sing about the theme of rising up as that is what
God’s grace enables us to do. Given my own imperfections it is something
I have had plenty of opportunity to do myself. No matter what we
have done or what has been done to us, we can arise because of what Jesus
accomplished on the cross.
Because I don’t read music
I have to hear a melody first and then I can attempt to reproduce it.
Not having heard the hymn before I could not play it but as I moved from
the song’s title to the lyrics penned by Wesley all those years ago I thought
“these are great words”. I began to fit the words of the hymn
to a chord sequence that I had been playing around with and the song evolved
from there.
Taking Wesley’s words for
the verses and adding a chorus I produced this new arrangement of a great
hymn.
I have never heard the original
version of the hymn but it is my hope that this arrangement brings a new
spark to eternal truth, stirring up an “arising” in the souls of others.

ARISE MY SOUL ARISE
Verse 1
Arise my soul arise, shake
of your guilty fears
The bleeding sacrifice
on your behalf appears
He ever lives above for
me intercede
His all redeeming love,
His precious blood to plead
Pre Chorus
His blood atoned for all
our race
And sprinkles now the
throne of grace
Chorus
Arise my soul my soul
arise
Your hope is strong and
true, through His perfect sacrifice
Let not the past endure,
your future’s safe and sure
Because of God’s unfailing
love
Verse 2
Five bleeding wounds He
bears, received on Calvary
They pour effective prayers
they strongly plead for me
My God is reconciled
His pardoning voice I hear
He owns me for His child
I will no longer fear
Pre Chorus
With confidence I now
draw nigh
And Father, Abba Father
cry
